Dal Baati & the Guilt!

I was happy with my workout today, which was a repeat of yesterday with just a bit less of cardio. And I am already guilty of the heavy lunch that I just had. But tell me, who could have missed out on dal-baati prepared by my father-in-laws?!?

600 for the 1st time!

I love the lazy Saturday afternoons. Sourabh & Amadhya are sleeping. I am surfing the net while listening to my favourite band from the 90s. Few days back, a 90s hindi movie song was on the radio, which the RJ titled it as “Gaana from Purana Zamana”. I was appalled. 90s and purana zamana are mutually exclusive!!!

The sinful chilly cheese toast and a spoon of chocolate cake that I had yesterday made me guilty enough to spend almost 2 hours in the gym today. Burnt a lot of calories and did a lot of abs. My trainer was in the weekend mood so he drove me crazy with his driving stories while I did my abs. Bless him! he makes me push the boundaries further each day.

Inspiration & More..

I think that the best in us is brought out by the toughest of times. My friend Kavi has been recognized with the “Employee of the Year” award. She is into advertising and has had two very successful campaigns last year. This year has perhaps been the most difficult year of her 11 years in advertising, with a demanding toddler in tow and no home based support. Yet, it has been the best year of her career so far!

Kavi, Congratulations! Thank You for inspiring us to do more and to be more.

Honestly, I am not trying to avoid the conversation on my workouts! I have been very regular at the gym, although I haven’t shown the same commitment at this blog. I have managed to burn 128 calories in 20 minutes on the cross trainer yesterday – I am getting there! Yippeee…

I attempted the weights training on Monday, which resulted in stiff arms and shoulders for the next 3 days. I have been doing a combination of cardio and abs for the last few days.

Aim to tame the beast.

I dislike the cross trainer. I usually burn less calories on a cross trainer. I  somehow managed to cross 100 calories in 20 minutes on this beast today. I aim to burn atleast 150 calories in 20 minutes on a cross trainer in the next couple of days. Lets see if I can make it happen!

Gave a Miss Yesterday!


I didn’t go to the gym yesterday. I didn’t know that I had committed such a big mistake until I told my colleagues. My 3 teammates are health conscious people. So during the day, I ate couple of crackers and the calories were counted. I had a cup of coffee and the calories were counted. Thank God, I had lunch with a different set of people…

Today, I worked out harder and burnt a bit more calories to cover for yesterday. Well, it’s just a mind game…

Pain no more

When I came home today after the workout, Sourabh was still in bed reading the newspaper. Amadhya was playing with his cars, as usual! I sat down on the floor to take my shoes off. Although I wanted to head for a shower straightaway, I lied down on the floor instead. Suddenly Amadhya climbed over me, hugged me and then made himself comfortable with his head tucked between my face and my left shoulder and his arms around me. There was no more throbbing & pain in my legs...

It took him not more than 3 minutes to find his cars again. But, I guess I had my Kairos moment of the day very early in the morning!

11 hours straight!

Amadhya hadn't slept the whole day yesterday and was very sleepy by 6:00 in the evening. I fed him dinner at 6:30 and afterwards he was fast asleep within few minutes of rocking.I gave in to the temptation and slept with him! I slept for 11 hours straight... I am pleased about it in a wicked way.

My trainer today urged me to start with floor exercises & abs along with the cardio routine. By the end of one & half hours, my knees started locking. It was amusing to climb down the stairs with such stiffness in the knees.

Beautiful Saturday Morning


It’s been ages since I have woken up at 5:00am on a Saturday. I did today! Let me hear the cheers, people.

Unrushed Morning!


In my endeavour to not rush my mornings, I decided to wake up 15 mins early. I was on my way to the gym at 5:10am and was home by 6:45am. This schedule is awesome.

As I started my drive back from the gym, this song was on the radio – Tu na jaane aas paas hai khuda… I wonder if this was just to tell me that I CAN wake up early and I CAN continue with this routine!

The Journey Starts Again, Today!


It had all started in Winchester, UK. Alice & I had spent the whole day at home, talking about our regrets and how we wanted our future to shape up. We went to Sainsbury’s on the high street to buy groceries and stopped over at the Cathedral on our way back. 

I suppose we both needed individual thinking space to figure things out in our heads. We sat quietly for a long time on that bench on a freezing December ‘06 night.

Alice decided to change something in her life, which she has been very successful with. And I had promised to lose weight. I lost 30 kgs in the next 3 years - I feel great about it.

I gained quite a bit again during my pregnancy. Tendency to gain weight + no exercise + no diet control = disaster! So, here I am trying to lose the flab again. It will be even more difficult this time around with the family distractions & increased work commitments.

I want to chronicle my weight loss journey, not just to track my progress, but also to find inspiration to keep going. You know how statistics can bring the joy and the terror, all at the right time!
